As Singapore's energy transition gains momentum, the clean energy industry is set for significant workforce growth over the next decade.
EMA’s Energy Sector Manpower Survey 2022 revealed that Singapore's clean energy workforce is projected to grow by 80% by 2032, reaching around 2,700 workers. The power sector is also expected to expand by 800 workers during the same period. The survey showed that there will be strong growth in the clean energy sector, especially in job functions such as electricity transmission and distribution solutions, low-carbon alternatives, solar energy, and smart grids.
Delivering a secure and stable electricity supply for Singapore requires a competent and skilled power sector workforce. For the first time, workforce training on operations for Singapore’s power generation companies (gencos) will be centralised and standardised with the launch of the Centralised Power Plant Simultator (CPPS). Developed by Singapore Institute of Power and Gas, in partnership with EMA and gencos, the CPPS sets a consistent standard for skills training across gencos. It also provides a simulated environment for participants to learn actual day-to-day plant operations and train for scenarios such as power disruptions.
EMA celebrated the achievements of emerging youth leaders in the energy sector at Youth@SIEW 2023.
Four Ngee Ann Polytechnic engineering students received the Energy-Industry Scholarship, sponsored by YTL PowerSeraya, which will give them a career head start in the energy sector.
Seven energy ambassadors were recognised for successfully completing the Energy Ambassador Programme, a youth advocacy platform for the energy sector. Over two years, these tertiary students participated in learning journeys to energy facilities and had peer-to-peer discussions on energy topics and with students at career fairs.
Seven teams from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic emerged as winners of the Singapore Energy Grand Challenge (Youth) for Institutes of Higher Learning. Industry partners EDP Renewables, Tuas Power and Univers provided mentorship to students during the challenge to refine their innovative solutions to tackle current energy challenges.
Over 80 teams took part in the junior and senior categories where they shared their vision of Singapore’s 2050 cityscape on social media.
All that EMA achieves is only possible because of our people's dedication and commitment.
EMA is committed to deliver our unique Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to create value and positive impact for our employees by developing a holistic employee experience.
Launched in November 2023, the four EVP pillars are Going Beyond, Energising Growth, Empowering People and Caring for You. These pillars guide the EMA Experience for our people.
As EMA continues to drive Singapore's energy transition, our people are empowered to build up their expertise to drive change and innovation.
To enable our people to advance their professional development and become experts in their domains, EMA offers sponsorship and postgraduate scholarship programmes, functional training and overseas attachments. This includes attachments to the International Energy Agency, which allow officers a chance to understand key energy challenges from an international perspective and gain hands-on experiences.
EMA actively promotes digitalisation and the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools. To enable innovation at every level, EMA launched “Innolabs” in April 2024, a Public Sector Transformation initiative aimed at fostering innovation and driving transformation within the organisation. Innolabs serves as a collaborative platform for EMA officers to identify challenges, crowdsource solutions, and develop prototypes as an agile approach for continuous improvement. Innolabs has received 45 challenges submitted from 12 departments within just one month and project teams are working on the ideation of solutions to enhance productivity within EMA.
Our employees’ well-being and the fostering of strong teamwork is at the heart of EMA’s culture. We prioritise meaningful employee engagement that builds camaraderie and empowers our employees to contribute productively and purposefully. Through regular engagement sessions like monthly breakfast sessions and team building game sessions, these platforms provide an opportunity for employees to network, create meaningful connections and bond through play.
In April 2023, EMA enhanced the welfare funds scheme for employees to organise team-bonding activities as a department or on a social basis, to foster trust, improve collaboration, and support one another’s well-being.
EMA organises regular Staff Forums and engagement sessions with senior management, which serves as a platform for employees to participate in dialogue and enable open communication. Moreover, our hybrid work arrangements continue to provide employees with the flexibility to balance their family and work priorities, ensuring a supportive and adaptive work environment.
The Children’s Wishing Well (CWW) is a registered charity dedicated to the holistic education of children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. Over the festive Christmas season, our colleagues raised more than $10,000 for CWW.
At EMA’s annual dinner & dance, our colleagues eagerly engaged in a live charity auction, bidding on four batik-inspired artworks lovingly crafted by talented young beneficiaries aged 10 to 12 years old.
Thanks to the generous contributions of our colleagues, the event raised over $24,900 in donations, which will support more than 1,000 beneficiaries. These funds will be directed towards supporting their education, daily living needs and programmes designed to equip them with skills for their future.
