Our vision for a clean energy future — one that is resilient, sustainable, and competitive — drives our efforts to achieve Singapore’s net zero goal by 2050.
This report highlights our progress in driving Singapore’s energy transition through the Four Switches. With energy demand projected to grow over the next decade, it showcases our efforts to strengthen the resilience of our power system to meet future needs reliably.
Due to Singapore’s lack of natural resources, the importation of low-carbon electricity from the region is an important strategy to decarbonise the power sector. To date, EMA has granted Conditional Approvals for imports from Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam, paving the way for Singapore to achieve its goal of importing four gigawatts (GW) of low-carbon electricity by 2035.
We have also made significant progress on solar adoption. With a total capacity of 1.17 gigawatt-peak (GWp) deployed to date, we have crossed the halfway mark of achieving our target of having at least 2 GWp capacity by 2030.
We continue to explore low-carbon technologies such as geothermal energy, hydrogen and carbon capture & storage, so that we can adopt these technologies quickly when they become viable for Singapore.
Natural gas will remain an essential fuel source to safeguard our energy security during the energy transition. We have announced plans to centralise the procurement of natural gas for a more stable and secure supply and are developing new power generation capacity to meet growing demand.
Within EMA, we are committed to the public sector’s sustainability movement, GreenGov.SG and the Singapore Green Plan 2030. Sustainability is at the core of our culture, and we strive to reduce resource consumption and lower our carbon footprint through green office practices.
Our efforts as stewards to champion Singapore’s energy transition will not be possible without the close collaboration, partnership and support of our stakeholders, industry partners and employees. Together, we will continue to pave the way towards a clean energy future.
