EMA offers a regulatory sandbox for companies to test new products and services in a ‘safe space’.
The Sandbox allows companies to seek temporary regulatory waivers to test new products and services in a safe and conducive space, while providing the necessary safeguards to protect consumers and the energy market. This provides an avenue for EMA to review existing regulations and make necessary adjustments to support energy innovation in Singapore.
The Sandbox will be of interest to companies that are looking to leverage existing or new technology in an innovative way to provide products and services in the electricity and gas sectors, or to improve business and operational procedures.
Companies who wish to test their solutions via the regulatory sandbox can submit their proposals via this application form. They can also email to sandbox@ema.gov.sg to find out more about the initiative.
For companies’ ideas to qualify under EMA’s regulatory sandbox, their proposals should demonstrate the following:
The regulatory sandbox complements ongoing energy R&D initiatives by providing a platform for R&D projects to be tested on a broader scale in Singapore.
EMA is prepared to consider providing funding support for Regulatory Sandbox projects through our R&D grant calls. Companies that submit proposals to grant calls may separately request for regulatory relief via the application form.
