The Centralised Process coordinates the planting of new generation capacity by the private sector and ensures there is sufficient generation capacity to serve electricity demand in a secure and reliable manner.

Under the Centralised Process, EMA conducts an annual projection of the reserve margin based on the electricity demand projections and retirement notice submissions from electricity generation licensee(s). Should the projected reserve margin fall below the required reserve margin of 27%, EMA will launch a request for proposal (“RFP”) for the private sector to build, own and operate new generation capacity.
