Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Sweden's Ministry of Climate and Enterprise reaffirm their shared commitment to deepen energy cooperation on the occasion of the State Visit of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 19 – 20 October 2026.
This follows the signing of the Singapore – Sweden Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Energy Cooperation during the State Visit of HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in November 2024, which was followed by several exchanges to deepen collaboration on energy and grid technologies, and regional energy interconnectivity. EMA and Sweden also jointly launched the inaugural Singapore – Sweden Forum in 2025, which was held in conjunction with the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).
Both sides will build upon this positive momentum to deepen exchanges on the clean energy transition. By combining Swedish strengths in energy innovation with Singapore's position as a leading energy and innovation hub, both sides will explore opportunities to deepen cooperation and exchanges on emerging energy technologies, including hydrogen and ammonia, as well as on regional energy interconnectivity and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies
Business Sweden supports the implementation of the cooperation by facilitating dialogue between government agencies, companies, and other stakeholders in the energy sector. On 20 October, during the State Visit to Sweden by Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a high-level energy session will be held focusing on future energy systems and opportunities for deeper collaboration between Sweden and Singapore.
In addition, Business Sweden will be organising “Spotlight: Sweden” during the 19th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) on 29 October 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen bilateral energy partnerships and explore how Swedish energy solutions can contribute to Singapore's energy transition. This cooperation builds on developments in both countries.
Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of the Energy Market Authority of Singapore said: “EMA welcomes the deepening of energy cooperation with Sweden Ministry of Climate and Enterprise, underpinned by our shared commitment to innovation and the energy transition. Since the signing of the MOU on Energy Cooperation in 2024, both sides have made good progress in deepening our exchanges on energy technologies and regional energy interconnectivity. We look forward to building on this strong foundation in support of a secure, resilient and sustainable energy future”
“Singapore and Sweden are partners in advancing a competitive and sustainable energy transition. By combining Swedish strengths in energy innovation with Singapore's ambitious energy agenda, we are creating new opportunities for knowledge exchange, investment, and long-term cooperation.” Ebba Busch, Minister for Energy, Business and Industry and Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Climate and Enterprise, Sweden.
