Energy Market Authority to establish Advisory Panel on Energy Supply Resiliency

02 Oct 2023
Media Releases 02 Oct 2023
  1. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) is establishing an Advisory Panel on Energy Supply Resiliency, which will help to identify strategies to improve the reliability of Singapore's fuel supply and energy system.
  2. Resilience of the Power Sector

  3. The resilience of the power sector is critical, especially in times of increasing uncertainties. As Singapore imports almost all of our energy needs, we are vulnerable to global disruptions. Safeguarding the nation's power supply is crucial to ensuring the well-being of Singaporeans, sustaining economic growth, and driving technological advancements.
  4. The Energy Supply Resilience Advisory Panel will advise EMA on strengthening the resilience of Singapore's energy system. It will examine and recommend strategies to mitigate potential disruptions and uncertainties across the energy supply chain, including upstream sources and domestic generation facilities. The panel will take into consideration system interdependencies, as well as trade-offs that may be required to balance resilience, sustainability, and competitiveness.
  5. Tan Chin Hwee to Chair the Advisory Panel

  6. Mr Tan Chin Hwee will chair the Energy Supply Resilience Advisory Panel. Mr Tan was the first Asian Asia-Pacific CEO at Trafigura, one of the largest trading firms in Asia for energy and commodities. Mr Tan stepped down from his position in September 2023.
  7. Mr Tan is also Chairman of SGTradex Services and serves as a member of the Climate Impact X Advisory Council. Mr Tan has previously served in the Emerging Stronger Taskforce under the Future Economy Council, where he was involved in both the supply chain digitalisation and sustainability working groups. He also serves on the Trade and Connectivity Standard Committee of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Financial Centre Advisory Panel of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the International Maritime Centre Advisory Committee 2030 of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
