MTI Announces Board Changes at Four Statutory Boards

  1. The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) today announced board appointment changes at the Energy Market Authority (EMA), JTC Corporation (JTC), International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).
  2. Energy Market Authority (EMA)

  3. Mr Ng How Yue, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Law, will assume the post of Chairman of EMA with effect from 1 May 2016. He will take over from Mr Loh Khum Yean, who will be appointed as Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry) on the same day.
  4. In addition, MTI has appointed three new members to the Board of EMA. Two board members were earlier re-appointed on 1 April 2016:

      Appointment of New Board Members (effective 1 May 2016)

    • Mr Zia Zaman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, LumenLab. Senior Vice President & Chief Innovation Officer, MetLife Asia
    • Mr Kon Yin Tong, Managing Partner, Foo Kon Tan LLP
    • Ms Quah Ley Hoon, Chief Editor (English Current Affairs, News Division), MediaCorp Re-Appointment of Board Members (effective 1 April 2016)
    • Mr Quek See Tiat, Deputy President, Council for Estate Agencies
    • Mr Pek Hak Bin, Group Chief Executive Officer, Cronus Energy Pte Ltd

  5. The following board members have stepped down upon the completion of their terms on 31 March 2016:
    • Mr Tang Tuck Weng, Senior Director, National Climate Change Secretariat
    • Mr Allen Lew, Chief Executive Officer (Consumer Australia), Chief Executive Officer (Optus), Australia, Singapore Telecommunications Limited

    JTC Corporation (JTC)

  7. MTI has re-appointed Mr Png Cheong Boon as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board member of JTC with effect from 1 May 2016. Mr Yeoh Oon Jin, Executive Chairman, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, was re-appointed as a board member on 1 April 2016.
  8. Ms Chen Soon Bin, former Managing Director, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation Pte Ltd, has stepped down from JTC’s Board on 1 April 2016.
  9. IE Singapore

  10. Four new members were appointed to the Board of IE Singapore on 1 April 2016:
    • Mr Lee Ark Boon, CEO, IE Singapore
    • Mr Ong Peng Tsin, Managing Director, Monk’s Hill Ventures
    • Mr Viswanathan Shankar, Chief Executive Officer, Gateway Partners
    • Mr Lau Peet Meng, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) and concurrent Director (Operations), Singapore Police Force, Ministry of Home Affairs

  11. Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC)

  12. The following members on the Board of SDC were re-appointed on 1 April 2016:
    • Mr Heng Chen Seng, David, Co-Head, Markets Group, Head, Consumer and Real Estate, Head, South East Asia, Temasek International Pte Ltd
    • Mrs Koh-Lim Wen Gin, Board Member of National Parks Board/ Independent Director, Keppel Land Ltd
    • Mr Lim Joo Boon, Chairman, Singapore Turf Club
    • Mr Ronny Tan Chong Tee, Chairman, Assisi Hospice
  13. In Appreciation

  14. MTI extends its appreciation to all outgoing board members for their invaluable contributions and welcomes the new board members. MTI would also like to thank outgoing EMA Chairman Mr Loh Khum Yean for his contributions.
  15. Mrs Ow Foong Pheng, Permanent Secretary for MTI, said, "Under Mr Loh Khum Yean’s leadership, EMA has embarked on various initiatives to enhance market competition to benefit consumers. Mr Loh also oversaw various R&D initiatives to make Singapore’s power system more resilient, and contributed to the development of manpower capabilities to build up a strong Singaporean core in the power sector. I would like to thank Mr Loh for his contributions."
  16. Mrs Ow added, "I would also like to welcome Mr Ng How Yue as the new Chairman of EMA and look forward to his guidance and leadership of the Board."
