Companies and research organisations can now leverage on the Pulau Ubin Micro-grid Test-bed to develop and pilot energy-related technologies. The Energy Market Authority (EMA) today announced the launch of a Request for Proposals (RFP) under Phase 2 of the Pulau Ubin Micro-grid Test-bed.
Opportunities under Phase 2
Under Phase 2, the existing micro-grid infrastructure will serve as a platform for companies and research organisations to try out innovative technologies. It would include areas such as energy analytics, energy storage and grid asset management[1]. Safeguards will be put in place to maintain the safety and reliability of electricity supply to end-users.
Mr Chee Hong Tat, Chief Executive of EMA, said, “Phase 2 of the Test-bed presents an opportunity to extract useful learning points to prepare our power grid for larger scale deployment of solar energy in Singapore. This includes the development of technology solutions to overcome challenges associated with the intermittent nature of solar energy.”
Proposals for the Phase 2 RFP are to be submitted by 12 noon on 10 October 2014. The proposals received will undergo a two-stage evaluation process for selection of award. The RFP can be downloaded from here.
[1] These include, for example, (a) technologies that leverage on data collection and analysis, and (b) advanced energy storage solutions, to enhance the quality and reliability of electricity supply, and (c) technologies that monitor the conditions and performance of grid assets.
