- Singapore – 1 July 2013 – This year's Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) will showcase an enhanced series of roundtable discussions within the full programme of conferences, exhibitions and networking sessions.
- The theme of SIEW 2013, New Horizons in Energy, reflects the current optimism in energy circles with the rise of new oil and gas supplies and emergence of new energy technologies. With Asia leading the growth in global energy demand, SIEW offers a strategic platform for discussions on the evolving opportunities and challenges in powering the region.
- The Singapore Energy Summit (SES) will feature top government and private-sector leaders focusing on five broad issues relating to energy security and sustainable development.
- "Re-drawing the Energy Map" will examine how energy demand in Asia is influencing global geopolitics and trade flows. "In Conversation: Gas – A Game Changer?" will look at the prospective impact of gas and its potential to play a larger role in fuelling Asia. "The Resurgence of Fossil Fuels" will discuss the implications of the rise of fossil fuels on energy policies and renewable energy development.
- In "Low Carbon Development and Green Growth", panelists will discuss solutions for achieving low carbon development together with economic growth. "Powering Asia's Future Energy Needs" will offer perspectives on the outlook for Asia's energy needs.
- The strong line-up of speakers at the SES include Mr Charif Souki, Chief Executive Officer & President of Cheniere Energy; Mr Adnan Z Amin, the Director-General of IRENA; Mr Arthur Hanna, the Global Energy Industry Managing Director at Accenture; and Mr Jose Maria Figueres, President of the Carbon War Room and Former President of Costa Rica.
- For the popular SIEW thinktank roundtables, participants can look forward to at least six sessions jointly hosted by renowned Singapore and international think-tanks, including the Energy Studies Institute of Singapore of the National University of Singapore, Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University's Energy Research Institute (ERI@N), International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ). The roundtables will cover issues such as trends and challenges resulting from the resurgence of coal, the future of renewables, Asia's prospects for energy efficiency, nuclear safety and governance, and the role of government in developing sustainable energy policies.
- SIEW's partner conferences will also be returning this year to offer fresh insights on recent trends across the energy space. They are the Asia Future Energy Forum, Asia Smart Grid, Downstream Asia, Gas Asia Summit, and the PV Asia Pacific Expo and Conference. The other key events include the Singapore Electricity Roundtable and Platt's Annual Top 250 Global Energy Company Awards Dinner.
- Registration is now open for SIEW 2013 at http://www.siew.sg/, with limited early registration discounts of up to SGD600. SIEW 2013 will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands Singapore, from 28 October to 1 November 2013. SIEW 2013 is organised by the Singapore Energy Market Authority (EMA), a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade & Industry.
