Why are we still relying on natural gas?

As a small country with no natural resources, there are limitations to how we can deploy renewable energy sources. While solar energy is currently the most viable form of renewable energy for Singapore, intermittency and a lack of available land area limit its widespread adoption. Therefore, natural gas will remain a key fuel source in our energy mix to ensure our energy security and reliability while we scale up renewable energy deployment. At the same time, EMA is working with the industry to improve the efficiency and reliability of natural gas power plants and for new generating units to be hydrogen-ready.
